I can’t say I’m a sucker for Valentine’s Day. I think its sweet to tell people you love them and it is nice to have a day devoted to that but I mean my Valentine’s Day is July 11, 2014,  the day I married my best friend. That being said, I AM a sucker for love songs. There are some pretty talented people out there that have written beautiful songs about love. Today I want to share with you some of my favourites, particularly the ones played at my wedding.

My number one favourite love song is called “Your Love is Strong” by Jon Foreman. It begins with the sound of thunder, my favourite sound in the world. The song is about how strong God’s love is for us. It follows the Lord’s Prayer and points out the beauty of creation. Each time I listen to it I realize how loved I am and how much God knows exactly what I need at all times. This is the song to which Dwayne and I signed our marriage register.

Another one that maybe wouldn’t actually top my favourite’s list but just means something to us is “Never Say Never” by The Fray. It was one of the top 100 when we started dating in 2009. I guess it just happened to come on the radio an awful lot when we were together and so it became “Our Song.” I’ll warn you, it’s quite repetitive if you’ve never heard it. It’s mainly about “don’t let me go.” Anyway, back to my 22 year old self. I decided to walk down the aisle to this song last July and it was quite perfect.

My four beautiful bridesmaids walked down the aisle to “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. I know, I know, it’s a cliché wedding song but you can’t deny it’s absolutely beautiful with piano and violin. I recommend you check out the version done by The Piano Guys. It’s fantastic!

We wanted to walk out of the church with a bang. We wanted the music to say “hey we did it! We got married and we are so pumped about it!” It took me a while to figure out the perfect song but I found it in “Won’t Stop Getting Better” by Jason Walker. No it’s not a love song but I mean for the naïve bride and groom running down the aisle to the checkered flag (literally for us) it really set the mood perfectly.

Well I started writing intending to just share a few of my favourite tunes but this definitely turned into a blog post about my wedding and an opportunity to show some photos to those who haven’t seen them all yet. I guess that’s blogging for you, it’s always a surprise, even to me!

One last thing before I leave you. Over the next week or so I plan on sharing some more favourite love songs on my facebook page: www.facebook.com/mroom.ca . Be sure to check it out every day for some really creative videos and songs so sweet they could give you a cavity (yes that was a lame teacher joke).
